College Project: 3 Minutes
Three minutes is all you need for many everyday tasks. But what about things that usually take much longer? Is it possible to take a three minute break and feel like you were gone much longer? I had been listening to a sci-fi audio podcast that featured “Flash Fiction” and I liked the format because it felt like reading only the most powerful or thought provoking part of a book.
So I wanted to recreate that in my 3 minute project, using the flash fiction story “Strange Girlfriend” by Scott Janssens, which does take about three minutes to read. I was experimenting with creating an accordion-style folding brochure, making smaller folds for segments that were more rushed and longer ones for slower parts, however there was still some limit to page width, and often the type had to contort itself into the format, rather than the format suiting the type.
So instead I created one very long, narrow typographic piece that could be rolled up into a scroll. But.. how to present it? In short, I created a scroll reader, out of which you pull the story as you read it. You can rewind it after you are done. All paper, no glue.
